After the lecture, there will be a reception with drinks and refreshments, where participants will have an opportunity to meet with the speaker and fellow members.

Mount Fuji was registered as a World Heritage site in 2013 as a “sacred place and source of artistic inspiration.” Its inscription on the World Heritage list was conditional, though, with the World Heritage Committee pointing out that, given the millions of tourists who visit the mountain every year, measures are needed to address safety and erosion issues caused by overtourism. “Mount Fuji is screaming for help,” says concerned Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki. He is advancing a number of relief measures and plans, including climbing restrictions to be introduced in July 2024. At the Special Lecture for Members, he will discuss his vision for the area around Mount Fuji and Yamanashi Prefecture as a whole aimed at preserving and enhancing the region’s appeal over the next century.
